Scholarships for Indian Students: London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) CR Parekh Fellowship 2009/10

In the Autumn of 2008, the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) will invite applications for the `C.R. Parekh Fellowship’. Applicants should be established scholars in the social sciences with experience of research on India. Applicants should hold a PhD or comparable qualifications and experience – the fellowship is not intended for students registered for a degree or diploma, nor is it intended for senior academics.

  1. The `C.R. Parekh Fellowship’ will be for a period of three months, preferably starting 1st October 2009 to allow the Fellow to fully participate in academic activities around, and will be based at the Asia Research Centre at the LSE.
  2. The Fellow will receive a monthly subsistence allowance of up to £1200 a month, the exact amount depending on qualifications; and will be provided with office space and access to research facilities at the School.
  3. The Fellow will be expected to engage in research on a topic under the following themes:
    • Poverty, Inequality, Human Development and Social Exclusion
    • Quality of Public Life
    • Regional Disparities
    • Identities – Gender, Ethnicity, Language
    • Economy and Environment
    • Political Structures and Processes
    • Constitutional Debates

    Preference will be given to topics that focus on social, economic, political and constitutional concern to India

  4. The Fellowship is open to candidates from India only.
  5. The Fellow will be expected to finish a piece of research of publishable quality during their stay and make a presentation at a seminar or lecture arranged by the Asia Research Centre.

Applications will not be accepted via e-mail or fax under any circumstances. Applications should include a curriculum vitae in no more than three pages and an outline of proposed research in no more than three pages. Please use A4-sized plain paper only. Please do not staple your application. Applicants should also give the names and addresses of two referees, familiar with their work, to be contacted by the Chairman.

The tentative final date for receipt of applications is Monday 14 January 2009. Late applications will not be accepted. The successful candidate should be informed of the decision by the end of March 2009.
